Beyond Buckthorns is a permaculture design hub in rural Finland.
We moved to Lumia's childhood home from Germany in 2016 and since then we have been transforming the old log house and its three-hectare plot of land according to permaculture principles and ethics. We are passionate about fairness, growing our own food (especially fruit trees, herbs, annual vegetables and berries), biogas, sustainable and ecological living, renovating the old house, experimenting in all kinds of ways - and of course permaculture design!
In our blog, we share our projects and our journey into permaculture. Dominik received his Diploma of Applied Permaculture in autumn 2021, Lumia hers in February 2025. Many of our permaculture projects can also be found on the blog.
We hold 2 to 3 courses per year. Sometimes even a Permaculture Design Course.
