Anna's Tuin & Ruigte
Anna’s Tuin & Ruigte is a social and educational permaculture project with a vegetable garden, food forest, dye garden, bee & butterfly garden and a large section of wilderness. The 3 acres is always publicly accessible to all. An attractive green area where people from Amsterdam can experience nature, meet each other and learn about urban agriculture.
The Anna’s Tuin & Ruigte Foundation has been active for 7 years with 50 volunteers on the team, working in both the management and organization of the area. We do this on fixed working days and in various working groups. In addition we share our knowledge and enthusiasm with the neighborhood and the broader public.
Next door to Anna’s Tuin & Ruigte is the Faculty of Science and the Amsterdam University College. We offer scientists and students from the UvA and AUC space for research and education.
The permaculture design system we apply is based on patterns and relationships in nature. With this we create a sustainable and resilient environment for people, animals and plants inside an urban area.
Anna’s Tuin & Ruigte forms a green corridor. In the wilderness we create a habitat for wildlife and plants. There we have spotted the fox, the hedgehog, the bumblebee, the swallowtail and the kingfisher.
