Our homestead is a small but growing family project launched in 2024 when we bought our 0.2 ha plot nestled between a mature oak forest, the sea, and the mountains — right on the Basque border between France and Spain.
As a suburban site, we aim to demonstrate that size doesn’t matter when it comes to permaculture: even in a compact space, we can design resilient, abundant, and joyful systems.
Mayi, a biologist and professional permaculture designer, leads the design process. Andre brings his experience as a former forester and tree planter. Together with our three children, we’re cultivating a space that is both practical and playful — keeping our childlike curiosity alive.

Dupa Gard is an expanding Permaculture project in the Carpathian Mountains. Founded in 2015 by Ioana Joca-Pohl and Andreas Pohl, its aim is to promote local culture and find a regenerative future for this region with its abundant past.
