A celebration of rewilding the world - Feral Dutch Design 2020

During Dutch Design Week, 16 to 25 October 2020, De Kloosterbostuin in Eindhoven The Netherlands is organising the first edition of the annual Feral Dutch Design* show at Landgoed Eikenburg.

Dutch Design Week is an established international design show that attracts over 350,000 visitors to Eindhoven each year in the last full week of October. It showcases the harvest of innovative, creative and esthetic design by young and established designers. DDW is known for radical, challenging and controversial work. The past few years have seen a surge in "green" and "sustainable" design. Still even this innovative work seems stuck in greenwashing the urban mindset and industrially manufactured world. Due to the triple bottom line of biodiversity, climate (energy) and material resource emergencies, new windows are opening. There is a renewed interest in rewilding not just nature but also our own human societies and individual lives.

From the DDW.nl web site: "Dutch design DDW does not just see Dutch design as a label for a certain group of designers or design aesthetic, but as a permanent reflection of a culture and attitude that is characteristic of the Netherlands and of Dutch people. We identify with a solution-oriented approach, functionality, humanism, free thinkers, brutality, humour, ability to put things into perspective, single-mindedness, not hindered by thinking in terms of hierarchical barriers, the unconventional. But also the readiness for taking stakeholders seriously and involving them in the solution, in the creative process. Dutch design is an attitude and does not by definition refer to a nationality."

"In October of each year, Dutch Design Week (DDW) takes place in Eindhoven. The biggest design event in Northern Europe presents work and ideas of more than 2600 designers to more than 350,000 visitors from home and abroad. In more than 110 locations across the city, DDW organizes and facilitates exhibitions, lectures, prize ceremonies, networking events, debates and festivities.

Although during the event every imaginable discipline and aspect of design is on offer, the emphasis is on experiment, innovation and cross-overs. Exceptional attention each year goes to work and development of young talent.

DDW concentrates on the design of the future and the future of design. It is our objective to show how designers from around the world shape a positive future and to strengthen the position and meaning of Dutch designers."

Feral Dutch Design aims to show design from the perspective of the free and wild world of unconditional hospitality of nature. An exploration of a new relationship between mobile human communities of permanauts (enduring sailors) and a replenished biosphere. The show celebrates the remaining wilderness and recapturing the wildness of free people like you and I. Come join us for a week of co-creation and inspiration of life beyond urban permaculture. Exhibition, demonstrations, courses, workshops, fashion show, music, food tastings, Open Space and networking opportunities.Register your interest by email to info [at] dekloosterbostuin [dot] nl (info[at]dekloosterbostuin[dot]nl).
