ÍSAFJÖRÐUR The course will be held in Ísafjörður in a very special building. A geodesic dome designed by Einar Þorsteinsson architect that was specialized in geometric forms, including geodesic domes and the glass patterns in Harpan music hall. Half of the building is a greenhouse and the other half a spacious living space. The facilitation will take place inside the building, in the greenhouse and in the areas around, including Gróandi’s vegetable garden. Gróandi is the first community supported agriculture in Iceland, growing vegetables for 50 families in area.
MATERIAL You will learn to use permaculture principles and relevant technical solutions, learn about microclimate, plants, animals, microbes, water, soil structure, organic buildings and social connections. This theory can be used to create maintenance-free and highly efficient systems that have the variety, stability and resilience of natural ecosystems. These methods can be used in any type of project, whether it be a cultivation area, running a business, education, livelihood, finance or personal health. Permaculture is a method to find good solutions and making informed decisions.
With permaculture methods we can fulfill the needs of humans without any harm to the nature, in fact the aim is always to do better and leave a positive footprint. Conventional systems Sustainability Permaculture Permaculture uses the nature as a model when finding the right solutions, since nature has always found solutions that work perfectly. In this way we can take responsibility for our own lives, our way of living and design our way out of old habits and bad conscience.
TEACHERS Two of the teachers live in Danmark and will join us here in Iceland for this two week course, while one of the teachers lives in Ísafjörður. They all have long experience in permaculture and are leading in the permaculture field in their country.

“Training Permaculture Teachers” (TPT). Rosemary Morrow developed TPT in order to have a multiplier effect in the development of permaculture, with the intention to develop the course in the different European languages by teachers from those countries. The following TPT courses in Europe 2019 are facilitated by Alfred Decker and local teachers:
– Sweden @ Kosters Trädgårdar, November 5-12, with Cathrine Dolleris and Helena Von Bothmer. This course is available to PDC holders from any country who want to teach participatory learning methods from Rosemary Morrow’s experience and from the “Permaculture Educators Course”. Read More… (or we could put the link to the announcement on the EuPN site: https://permaculture-network.eu/events/training-permaculture-teachers-course/)
– Portugal @ Vale de Lama, October 26-November 1, with Hugo Oliveira and Patricia Pereira
Facilitated by Alfred Decker (core facilitator and convener), Nicole Wolf (convener) and guest tutors: Declan Kennedy, Mojisola Adebayo, Sonja Bach, Johanna Häger, Dennis Posthumus, Robert Strauch, Bouba Touré, Raphaël Grisey, Rosemary Morrow (via videoconference) and others
Film Feld Forschung @ Silent Green Kulturquartier and 12P Permaculture Design invite you to a two-week intensive Permaculture Design Course (PDC), offering the internationally-recognized 72-hour permaculture curriculum. Our focus is on urban and social permaculture and how activist permaculture can work for climate justice and building a non-racist society where the permaculture ethic „People Care“ is practised. We will explore soil as the ground we live on and with, as a contested and extracted medium; how practices of soil regeneration connect to how we live together; and how the ethics and principles of permaculture and regenerating soil relates to arts and film practices.
* Earth Activism & Social Permaculture @ La Loma Viva and La Bolina (Granada, Spain), September 4 – 11, with Starhawk, Alfred Decker, Alex Kruger, and members of La Loma Viva and La Bolina
At Applewood we have begun to put together the programme for this year’s Training of Teachers in June. A few places are still places available, so have a look at our website and book your place now! We use methods for building confidence of the participants throughout, and you will get many opportunities to practice your teaching and facilitation skills and learn through doing. You will give two micro-teach session to put into practice what you have learned, and be able to learn from observing others do the same. The course is fun, lively, interactive and creative. It is fun and inspiring to spend time with a group of dedicated permaculturists who all bring different passions and skills related to permaculture. As one former participant put it, the course is “challenging but empowering. It gave me the courage to be the teacher I know I am.“ For bookings and more information:Training of Teachers 2019 – Applewood Courses
